I hope many, many people watch this film, Diane.

As someone who has been involved with the environmental movement for decades, it never ceases to surprise me that lots of people in this movement are unaware of the huge environmental impacts of the military.

And here in Canada, Carney is investing heavily in military and calling it nation building, even as our actual nation burns. It's disgusting.

Diane Engelhardt's avatar

Carney, his government and the whole House of Commons should watch this film, particularly those MPs from Alberta and Saskatchewan!

Diana van Eyk's avatar

I agree whole heartedly, Diane. Although my sense is that their minds are so made up it might not get through.

Frank Lambert's avatar

Carney is another disappointment, for sure, as he is another flunky political operative for the American/Zionist plan for control of the world.

Diane Engelhardt's avatar

He's one of these guys who look great out of the gates, but never makes the finishing line!

I agree with you that this film is an important one for all of us to watch. The other problem only briefly mentioned in the doc is the nuclear threat. Right now, I see it as possible that we will extinguish ourselves either through the climate catrastophe or even before if our insane leaders decide to go nuclear in their testosterone driven wars.

Diane Engelhardt's avatar

Our insane leaders are working hard on our total destruction, that's for sure!

Being Bonnie's avatar

The fact that they (all of them) have used the language: 'limited nuclear war' is enough to send chills through us!

Diane Engelhardt's avatar

Which goes to show how totally insane and irresponsible they are!

Susan T's avatar

were? they still are. Worse just lately.

Diane Engelhardt's avatar

Thanks, Susan! I've corrected it.

many thanks diane for this very informative and exciting story dealing with the main threat represented by the US militarism and its militaro industrial complexe. Since the advent of US imperialism and its aggressive dand deadly endless wars, our mother erath is upsetting upside down

Diane Engelhardt's avatar

Mother Earth will outlast us, and heave a great sight of relief when we're gone!

Thanks for an excellent review of what sounds like an excellent documentary.

Ah, this is one thing that I will have to slightly disagree on, although I will watch the documentary for most of the same reasons it was made. The rubbish that is dumped, creating problems for wildlife, for sea life, simply because it's unnecessary I'll back that, I'll agree to the constant pollution of our air created by the military industrial complex, the amount of poisons it pumps out in the air, on land and in the waters but I do not hold with the global warming side, nor there being too much carbon, in fact I would go as far as to argue it's now way too low. Back in the years when it was much higher, one year 12 %, not 0.12%, the trees, the plants, the farmers crops were much more bountiful, doing the job they were placed in our world to do, exchanging the carbon for oxygen for people to thrive.

In the north of England when the Romans invaded nearly two thousand years ago, the temperature was 40° C, the Romans grew grapes outside and flourished. But as we were still at the end of the Ice age the temperatures started to drop, our earth is a thing of constantly changing temperatures.

Here we do recycling but the majority of what we are made to separate in its various bins, is never recycled. It gets sent away to poorer countries so they can pollute their air and health burning it, taking it apart, whatever. There are fields of solar panels covering the farmland hereabouts, slowly poisoning the soil they stand upon, making the the land unfit for the use of growing crops after spending years of supposedly helping the atmosphere. They don't warn the farmers of those side effects. If the carbon level's. were honestly taken down to zero, rest assured everything on this earth including us will be dead. It is slowly dying now and I guess so are we as the trees can no longer do what they were meant to, being the lungs of this place. We will die, those with money hiding away in their bunkers laughing as their artificial oxygen is supplied believe once they have rid themselves of most of the population forget there will be nothing for them to return to, it takes time for earth to replace and once more thrive. So while I agree with your well written article I do not agree about the global warming side. That is the earth changing as we all do, going through its various stages of life.

Sorry for the length of this comment Diane.

No restrictions on length or content.

You are not entirely wrong. This film should clear things up for anyone with doubts about the C02 issue.

Susan T's avatar

Such a long comment. Difficult to really understand your conclusions, but is is good to know the different ways that people have of looking at this situation. It will help us to combat it, maybe.

Veronica Baker's avatar

My conclusion, sorry it wasn't clearer is the human caused climate was just another way to take more taxes by the already taxed to the hilt people, the climate changes regardless and there are downsides to some of the methods used to battle "too much" carbon.

Unless you refer to them chemtrailing our skies, a crime against humanity, then it's not humans that change the weather. I have lived through the decades when carbon level's were much higher, the tree's looked magnificent, the farmers produced more healthier crops without so many damaging products used to produce the vitamin depleted produce of today.

Like we as people go through our various stages of aging and changes that brings, the earth does exactly the same over a much longer time scale, so the weather also changes. I do agree there is way too much litter, disposed junk, also the vast amounts of pollution we pump out, especially the military complex.

I don't know if you know of Ozzy Ozzler, he was if you want, the Greta of his day but not putting the fear of God into children. One day he decided to let a human caused climate denier show him the knowledge he based his ideas on, give Ozzy his due, he admitted he had been wrong, did a 180 degree turnaround and made the documentary " Planet of the Humans".

Hope that explains it better.

Susan T's avatar

I can't find anything about anyone called Ozzy Ozzler when I do a search. However a search of Planet of the Humans suggests to me that the makers of that doc do not deny climate change but they do question some of the hype about renewables, which I find to be reasonable. Climate denial is just sticking your head in the sand. What is happening to our planet right now is not normal changes. It is caused by human behavioiur. I hope you will watch Earth's Greatest Enemy. She demonstrates how wars and the pollution caused by the US military have killed so many people and destroyed so much of the environment.

Being Bonnie's avatar

Your concerns are valid, of course. Perhaps this film will clear things up better for you. They did for me!

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2024/03/20/climate-the-movie-watch-here/?

Veronica Baker's avatar

But I wasn't denying climate change. And yes I agree 100% that wars and the pollution have damaged much of the environment around us, I stated that in my original comment. That much is undeniable, for the final time, I will say, theat God planned out this earth which meant sometimes the earth gets hotter, sometimes icier etc; or by human caused climate change logic, that means the ice age, the times of extreme heat in ages past was caused by whatever animals and few humans roamed the earth.

Mario E's avatar

You can if you want read the scientific literature that explains how atmospheric CO2 gas has heat trapping properties that increase with its concentration. Earth’s natural climate cycles and this CO2 effect upon it are separate phenomena.

Mario E's avatar

To point out just one of your many fallacies here: the earth’s flora uses atmospheric carbon at a metabolic rate that can’t be accelerated by putting more carbon in the air and thereby increase crop yields. Give a human air to breathe too rich in oxygen and it will have toxic effects.

Veronica Baker's avatar

I agree that humans do not need as much oxygen as most people think but sorry, the carbon readings have been much higher and we didn't die but farmers yields improved massively.

Talking about fallacies, ever since I was old enough to understand from 1971, every year bar one, there has been a human caused climate "we're going to die in ten years", or five, whatever number gets pulled out of the hat, "earths going to freeze because of humans, " then the opposite, which is why because of so many times people are going to die from heat, cold, thirst, etc; failed to materialize, they changed the wording to climate change to cover all bases.

You can call my points fallacies, having lived a lifetime of of listening to those, I'm entitled to my views the same as you are entitled to yours.

Mario E's avatar

Neither of us, Veronica, should espouse “views” that are contrary to science. It’s the one method we have to correct that which we want to believe but isn’t true. I also wish climate change was not true, but I choose to believe those trained to study it.

Veronica Baker's avatar

Fair enough but there equally as many scientists against climate change being caused by humans as there are for it. So at the very least for now we'll have to agree to disagree.

If for any reason at all I ever change my mind, it's doubtful but one never knows, I have no problem with admitting I was wrong about something.

Frank Lambert's avatar

Great article again, Diane! I watched the Chris Hedges interview with Abby Martin who is fantastic, as she doesn't sugarcoat anything. I enjoyed her program on RT many years ago before she left the station to pursue something else in her career of exposing so much "wrongdoing" in society.

Yes, without a doubt, the U.S. military is and has been for a long time, the biggest polluter on planet earth even contaminating ground water on military bases which armed forces personnel and their families drink/drank from, including myself, and dumping all sorts of toxic substances in the ground over the years, which caused various types of cancers and other man-caused diseases or sicknesses from people living at these military installations.

Diane Engelhardt's avatar

I like her anger, and her language!

The Revolution Continues's avatar

I really want to see this film--but I also want to share it with a wider audience. I don't want to cry alone and I want others inspired to shut down the US war machine along with me.

Diane Engelhardt's avatar

This film should make people howl with rage!

Frank Lambert's avatar

Not in Amerika it won't! We have a nation of people who love war and corporate moopolies and literally worship billionaires!

The Revolution Continues's avatar

I don't. None of my friends do. Perhaps the polls that say 70% hate Israel and support Palestinians are telling us that we're the majority now...

Diane Engelhardt's avatar

But unfortunately 70% don't have the money!

Martin and Prysner stand on the shoulders of a couple that predates them on the subject of the environmental impact of war and the preparations/material requirements for war: Alice and Lincoln Day who in, 2008 released their film: 'Scarred Lands, Wounded Lives: The Environmental Impact of War'. Worth a look: https://scarredlandsfilm.com/

I you want to see what is not entirely covered in Abby Martin's doc, watch this. much shorter. An Ordinary Insanity, Daniel Ellsberg.
