I feel all those feelings of despair and hopelessness too. It is sad that so many in Canada think that Mark Carney is any kind of answer to our problems. Bills C5 and C2 that he is working on passing quickly in parliament impinge on indigenous rights and head us in a similar direction toward immigrants that the US has taken. Mark Carney smiles sweetly while he is working on exerting his sick control.

Another wolf in sheep's clothing? I was hoping against all odds for better from Carney, but am not surprised. Hope, I'm finding, is grossly over-rated!

Yeah, I was hoping that he would be a reasonable, just person. But he is not. He is in it for the money and power just like the rest of them.

Diane, I HOPE that human beings go the way of the dinosaurs: worse animal ever. God's big mistake. Or, evolution's big mistake. It should have stopped at monkeys.

As far as this attack on Iran.....stupid, pointless, based on a lie that even a second grader could point out if she had a few basic facts. Actually, criminal.

Iran's only crime is being independent, not being a puppet. NOT having a nuclear weapon, which is against the fatwa of Ayatollah Khamenei, Iran's Supreme Leader since 1989. Iran SHOULD have had one. Then Israel which has about 400 would be more circumspect.

Israel knows how to work Trump: a lot of praise, a lot of lies and promises of honor if he follows their direction.

I had hope that the countries that are aligning (BRICS) to protect themselves from the bloodlust of the USA and Israel would be a block to an attack on Iran. From what I have learned, no matter what happens going forward, it will be a disaster for the world economy. It's the oil, folks.

The capos who are making the decisions don't give a damn about the people in their countries: not the USA, not Israel, not the UK or France...It's all about power for them.

Witness the hostages in Gaza. Israel murdered more than Hamas as they were being carried into Gaza and has blithely murdered those stuck in Gaza. They ones still there will have the same fate as the Palestinians. Gaza has now taken backpage. Starving and burying loved ones.

Diane, the problem is that the nuclear bombs would do a number on nature: our friends the bats and the kitty cats....etc. I was hoping for AIDS, back in the day....Then COVID,,,,which, now is quiet. If we're lucky, another big plague will come along a wipe us all out.

Think how nice it will be here with no humans.

Expressed so powerfully and eloquently Diane, so unbelievably awful, now the media portraying Israel as victims again because Iran decided to defend itself from Israel’s attack, the world is totally insane ( and barbaric evil and cruel)

Yes, and optimism is so hard to find when things are going from bad to worse and our protests are falling on deaf ears, or worse, being suppressed and criminalised

Why does Israel have such power?

Diane Engelhardt's avatar

Good question, Lisa! It is money, evil, cunning, messianic superiority, or all of the above. I don't know. And it's pretty scary!

Frank Lambert's avatar

Lisa, if I can answer your question, I'd say this: When you control a nation's money supply, much of the mainstream news outlets and the entertainment industry, and contribute vast sums of money to politicians-on the table and under the table, and for decades, mastered the art of propaganda and promoting themselves as victims, you can control the narrative.

Does that make sense?

What you're describing sure sounds a lot like fascism to me, Diane. I can't supply any optimism, but we have to keep making our voices heard and doing what we can. Thanks so much for doing that.

I think there are more of us than there are of those who keep this sick situation going, but we're never covered in the media.

We can't throw in the towel now.

Today I read a lot of negative commentary and articles trashing Iran.

Even that Bibi's popularity has gone up due to his handling of Iran and now he has more leverage to deal with the war on Gaza. !!!!!!!!!!!!

Great that our Pres. who has the maturity of a 7 year old playing with toy metal soldiers....is claiming victories.

what I want to know: WTF is happening in Gaza? I thought that Iran was in a good place and would demand cessation of the killings in Gaza and supplies going in before they stopped bombing Israel. So far, no.

ANGRY IS HELL!

On a much more general philosophical note, I think for real change to happen we need to break free from the materialistic, shallow Brave New World that's been created for us. This is not something that a party or a movement can achieve, we have to work it out for ourselves. Without this, the garden we want to create will not have fertile soil.

I share your exasperation too. It does make you froth at the mouth. The collective West's position towards Gaza is despicably, breathtakingly callous. I can neither stomach nor understand (from an ethical point of view, anyway) apologetics for Israel. Before the Gaza genocide, I had a visceral dislike of the Israeli state, but I hadn't really questioned its legitimacy. Now, I do, and just as I can't understand support for Israel in the light of the horrors it's committing, I can't look at the early years of Israel and see anything other than a state based on terrorism and ethnic cleansing. It's as if the 'They Live' spectacles have been removed and I see Israel and the collective West, too, for that matter for what they really are. What might have worked was a controlled Jewish immigration to Palestine within one state (no need for a one state 'solution' because there wouldn't have been a huge problem to solve) The trouble is, I can't help thinking that our leaders are just fine with our exasperation now because the chaos and the polarisation is their control system. I hope that one day, not too far away the massive deception will be become apparent to the masses Wizard of Oz style leading a critical mass to bring in an age that you and we all long for. Perhaps another way forward lies in a multipolar world balanced out by a more influential Global South as the ubiquitous Iranian professor, Marandi, often advances.

Watching US-Israel Propaganda acting as a 5th Horseman of the Apocalypse supporting ARMAGEDDON, aka, the Battle of the Great Day of God Almighty shaping up in the Middle East, where the Jewish-Christian Western World Biblical History started and may END in OUR generations, I find myself shouting at the TV I'm so angry and feeling powerless to stop the Madness as the kings of the Earth of the G-7 are totally complicit with Israel's aggression.

It is their own reality or the reality that they are seeking that they have a "better grasp" on. Their reality does not align with my reality which does not mean that I don't see their reality or have some understanding of it.
